Yorkshire Geological Society presents:
YORKSHIRE GEOLOGY DAY
Saturday 21st April 2018, 10.30am – 5.00pm
The event is free of charge and open to all.
National Coal Mining Museum for England, Wakefield, WF4 4RH
Morning Session: Displays, hands-on activities and demonstrations. Make your own fossil, calculate the size of dinosaurs and work out what they ate, bring your rocks for slicing, see what microscopes can show us. Bring that puzzling rock, mineral or fossil along for identification by experts. Book signing session with Colin Speakman, author of “Adam Sedgwick: Geologist and Dalesman”.
10.45am: Underground tour of Caphouse Colliery entering via the drift mine accompanied by a geologist and NCMM guide.
11.15am: Underground tour of Caphouse Colliery accompanied by a NCMM guide.
(Groups limited to a maximum of 19. Book on the day at the Museum Reception Desk)
12.00: Surface walk to Hope Mine entrance accompanied by a geologist to look at an exposure of coal-bearing rocks.
Afternoon Session: (2pm – 5pm)
“QUAKES AND SHAKES”.
Illustrated talks on the effects of earth movements on our planet.
