Yorkshire Geological Society presents – Yorkshire Geology Day here at The National Coal Mining Museum for England, Wakefield.
Displays, hands-on activities and demonstrations. Make your own fossil, calculate the size of dinosaurs and work out what they ate, bring your rocks for slicing, see what microscopes can show us. Bring that puzzling rock, mineral or fossil along for identification by experts.
10.45am – Underground tour of Caphouse Colliery entering via the drift mine accompanied by a geologist and NCM guide.
11.15am – Underground tour of the Caphouse Colliery accompanied by a NCM guide
12.00pm: Surface walk to Hope mine entrance to look at an exposure of coal bearing rocks.
“Geology in your Shopping Basket” running from 2.00pm until 5.00pm. This is illustrated talks on geology and the products in our everyday lives.
